Frobel Bilingual Elementary School was established to provide a safe and challenging academic environment. It also provides an opportunity for students to achieve a high standard of both English and Chinese. It is our hope that with all our current and future endeavors, we will serve as the “hand that rocks the cradle” nurturing and sustaining future citizens of the world- The Global Village.

Our school is located in the peaceful district of Longtan. The British-inspired architecture of our buildings, with patterns of red and white are a pleasant contrast to the azure skies. An abundance of fresh air, the sound of chirping birds , and the scent of wild flowers, provide students with a natural learning environment far from the bustle of the city.

At Frobel, the maximum class size is 30. We hope this size promotes effective classroom management and a student-centered learning environment where there is greater opportunity for teacher student interaction.
The curriculum is consistent with the Grade1-9 and 12-year curriculum guidelines; a well-designed language program in both Chinese and English is provided. Teaching materials are selected in accordance with the guidelines provided by the Ministry of Education. McGraw-Hill textbooks were carefully selected by the Curriculum Research Unit to match the content of the 9-year and 12-year curriculum guidelines. Language and usage are controlled to ensure conformity with the guidelines. Systematic introduction of language points and a spiral review promotes good learning results
At Frobel, subjects are integrated across multiple fields so children are able to get a more complete picture of their learning topics. Colorful and extensive illustrations, and clearly presented content enhances students’ motivation and interest. Topics from the humanities and arts are merged into the teaching materials to enrich young minds. And this priority is supported by the fact that, as well as regular comprehensive and diverse English classes, Math, Science, and Health are also taught in English by foreign teachers who are native English speakers. Our teaching program, and the high proportion of foreign staff employed, means that our students have the opportunity to communicate in English in a range of subjects and with a variety of native speakers of English. Students are also encouraged to speak English outside of formal class time.
In addition to the academic excellence and creativity, we also strive to create a multiple intelligence learning environment that recognizes the individuality of students, and the importance of enriching their minds and building their confidence through activities such as the game of GO and physical activities like Chinese YoYo. In this respect the school has weekly student club activities that include ukulele, dance, art, science, GO, Chinese YoYo, Robot Construction and Programming and pottery. Developing children’s personal potential, interests and communication skills will prepare them for life and their future careers.
We also have field trips to provide students with experiences outside their everyday activities. Rather than be cooped up in a classroom taking down math and science lessons from chalkboards, students are given the opportunity to head out into their towns and see how their classwork applies to real world experiences. Field trips can vary from museums to farms to science centers. Our school also holds a study abroad program during the summer break. Studying abroad lets students discover the world, gain international experience, explore exciting destinations, experience something new and get to know a new culture.
Our teachers are drawn from different disciplines, and work cooperatively to develop teaching projects. Students benefit from the diversity and individuality of the various teaching styles which in turn foster new attitudes to problem solving, group sharing and co-operation on the part of the students. This co-operative approach also promotes cultural understanding. With teachers and students coming from different parts of the world a multicultural atmosphere is created on campus, fostering respect for different cultures. We also teach children in a manner that will help them develop as moral, civil, well-mannered, behaved, non-bullying, healthy, critical, successful, traditional, compliant and/ or socially acceptable beings. Through every Thursday morning’s Character Education Time, we promote values and good habits and awareness towards corruption, terrorism and disease.
